Introduction

The Afghanistan Protection Cluster (APC) protection monitoring (PM) relies on contributions from Protection Cluster (PC) partners who regularly collect PM data through Household (HH) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) utilizing online data collection tools. The aim of PM is to collect evidence-based data on the protection needs and risks of IDPs, returnees (undocumented returnees and refugee returnees), and host communities to inform programming and advocacy. This report provides a summary of the protection monitoring data collected by partners in June 2024.

Overview of Household Data

• In June 2024, partners conducted 2,023 household (HH) interviews.

• Most interviews were conducted in-person (78%) while 22% were conducted over the phone.

• Of those interviewed, 48% were female respondents and 52% were male respondents.

• Most of those interviewed were married (76.6%), followed by widowed (13.9%), single (7.5%), separated (1.2%) and divorced (less than 1%).

• Those interviewed lived in settlement sites (63%) and host communities (37%).

• Most IDP respondents (65.9%) were displaced during the last 3+ years, followed by 23.5% displaced in the last 1+ year, 7% in the last 4-12 months, and only 3.5% in the last 1-3 months.

• Most returnees (46%) returned in the last 1-3 months, followed by 21.7% in the last 4-12 months, 16.7% in the last 3+ years, and 15.6% in the 1+ years.
