Objective
To improve the livelihoods and food security of vulnerable smallholder farming households and landless labourers.
Activities implemented
• Trained 58 implementing partners’ personnel on improved wheat variety cultivation, integrated pest management, climate-resilient crop management and vegetable cultivation.
• Distributed 250 tonnes of certified wheat seeds, 1 825.15 tonnes of urea and 1 825.15 tonnes of diammonium phosphate to 36 503 households.
• Distributed 15 tonnes of mung bean seeds to 2 000 households.
• Distributed 2.3 tonnes of eight types of high-quality vegetable seeds to 5 000 households along with 5 000 home-gardening toolkits and trained them on good agricultural practices.
• Engaged 7 000 households in cash-for-work activities for the construction/rehabilitation of 80 small-scale irrigation infrastructures, disbursing USD 700 000 (USD 100/household).
• Provided 700 vulnerable households with unconditional cash transfers, disbursing USD 7 000 (USD 100/household).
Results
• Enhanced the knowledge of 58 implementing partners’ personnel and the beneficiary households on good agricultural practices.
• Enabled 36 503 households to cultivate 14 601.2 ha of land and produce 43 804 tonnes of wheat, thanks to the distribution of wheat production inputs.
• Enabled 2 000 households to cultivate 400 ha of land and produce 579 tonnes of mung beans.
• Enabled 5 000 households to cultivate 200 ha of land and produce approximately 2 040.75 tonnes of vegetables.
• Enabled 7 000 households to meet their immediate needs and contributed to enhancing access to irrigation for their communities, thanks to cash-for-work activities.
• Enabled 700 households to meet their immediate needs, thanks to unconditional cash transfers.
• Contributed to improving the livelihoods and food security of the targeted communities, thanks to increased food production and access to cash.
