I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

On 23 January 2012, the Department of Public Health and the Afghan National Disaster Management Authority in Ghor Province reported a suspected measles outbreak resulting in the unconfirmed death of 15 children in two villages of Sarij and Gawkushta, Jawand district, Badghis.

Medical response teams are unable to reach the area as access is affected by the recent heavy snowfalls.

The Governor of Ghor has requested the use of a helicopter to deploy a medical team which is currently unavailable.
