1. Khost Situation Update

There are now an estimated 1,400 families in the Gulan camp near Gurboz. Nine hundred and fifty tents, provided by UNHCR and partners, have been erected and a local businessman has provided a water point in the camp. As of now, the primary need of the population is food assistance. In eight districts across the province, a total of 9,100 families are estimated to be displaced.

In order to improve the humanitarian coordination, UNHCR deployed staff to Khost province. Initial assessments from the field indicate that there are new refugee-hosting areas in Khost as well as in Paktika province. Reports from Spira, Tanni and Alishir (Teri Zai) indicate these families are living with the local population in their residence, extra houses or makeshift shelters.

In Paktika province there have also been recent reports of displaced families, however access is limited, making it difficult to confirm figures.
According to the Deputy Governor, unconfirmed reports suggest 3,000 to 4,000 families have been displaced to Urgun, Sarobi, Barmal, Zerok, Naka and Giyan districts of the province, with the majority staying in Barmal district. UNHCR and partners will continue to assess the situation on the ground in both provinces and will update accordingly.
