ISAF's deputy commander discusses progress in northern Afghanistan

MAZAR-E SHARIF, Afghanistan - The International Security Assistance Force's (ISAF) deputy commander for stability met with key players in reconstrcution and development in Afghanistan's Regional Command-North 23 April.

Maj. Gen. Garry Robison sat down with Afghan National Army Gen. Panang and representatives from 10 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the area to discuss progress in the region. He also solicited feedback on the relationship between ISAF and the NGOs and how to enhance reconstruction and development in the region, and Afghanistan in general.

"I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to sit down and discuss these issues with you," the general said. "The exchange was very stimulating."

Hosted by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Mazar-e Sharif, the meeting featured members of the PRT as well as taking part in the ongoing revitalization of the region.

Among General Robison's objectives in gathering information were to improve the sharing of best practices and to improve preparation of PRT members prior to their deployment to Afghanistan.
