At the end of October, floods in the Eastern provinces of Yemen displaced approximately 20-25,000 people, severe floods hit East- and North-Eastern Morocco, and heavy rains and subsequent flooding in Iran have caused significant damage to infrastructure. At the beginning of the month, Algeria also experienced the worst flooding for decades, affecting approximately 11,800 families. Plans are underway for a launch of the 2009 Humanitarian Appeal in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The launch will be held under the auspices of HH Sheikh Hamdan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, in partnership with UN OCHA.It is hoped that the launch will raise awareness of and mobilise support for the Consolidated Appeals Process as a tool in identifying and ensuring a coordinated response to humanitarian needs.
