Humanitarian funding analysis: Afghanistan floods

  • The Emergency Response Fund (ERF) is likely to be the first pooled funding source to respond to this crisis with US$2.6 million available. The Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) has also set aside funding of US$2 million to respond to recurrent seasonal flooding.

  • Denmark has released US$74,000 for the response to the flash flooding in the northern provinces.

  • Some domestic and diaspora resources have been mobilised.

  • Within the current 2014 UN appeal (Strategic Response Plan) of US$406 million for Afghanistan, there is a budget of US$133 million to respond to natural disasters.

  • There has been no Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) allocation in 2014.

  • US$227 million has been reported as disbursed to Afghanistan so far in 2014. A geographic breakdown of this funding is not currently possible.
