Highlights
- In South Asia, 55.6 million people, including 25.7 million children, will need humanitarian assistance in 2026 due to conflict, economic shocks, climate-induced disasters and public health emergencies.
- UNICEF will provide life-saving support in child protection, education, health, nutrition, WASH and shock-responsive social protection, while strengthening national systems and local capacities. Regional surge support and cross-border coordination will contribute timely, child-centred action. Gender equality, disability inclusion and accountability to affected populations are central to the response – ensuring the most marginalized populations are seen, heard and engaged.
- Through local partnerships and regional collaboration to reduce disaster impacts, UNICEF will promote resilience and scale up anticipatory action and preparedness.
- UNICEF seeks US$71.4 million to meet the most urgent needs of 4.7 million people, including 2.7 million children, in Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and to support locally led humanitarian action across the region.
