HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

• Movements in and out of Afghanistan have been relatively stable throughout the month of November. This week saw 73,935 inflow movements to Afghanistan, 38 per cent of which were undocumented returnees and 23 per cent were assisted by IOM.

• Inflows increased by four per cent compared to last week (73,935 compared to 71,161), while outflows decreased by seven per cent (52,423 compared to 56,209).

• Islam Qala (Islamic Republic of Iran border) and Torkham (Pakistan border) see the highest amount of movements among all monitored border points, accounting for 57 per cent of all movements. Overall, 91 per cent of inflows came through main border crossing points while nine per cent used other border crossing points. Among outflows, 85 per cent of travelled through one of the main border crossing points while 15 per cent used other border crossing points.

• Lack of documentation was most common among those coming into Afghanistan at main border points with both the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan. Nearly half (49%) of those entering Afghanistan through main border points from the Islamic Republic of Iran and one third (34%) of those entering Afghanistan through main border points from Pakistan were not carrying any documentation.

• A total of 2,277 individuals returned from Türkiye via Kabul airport in November according to IOM’s Cross Border PostArrival Humanitarian Assistance (CB-PAHA) (see page 9 for more information).
