HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

• During this reporting period, inflow movements (68,551) were 66 per cent larger than outflow movements (41,196). Compared to last week, this week’s outflow movements decreased by 22 per cent.

• Torkham border crossing point in Nangarhar province was closed during this reporting period due to security issues.

• During the month of February 2025, a total of 1,754 individuals returned from Türkiye via Kabul airport according to IOM’s Cross Border Post-Arrival Humanitarian Assistance (CB-PAHA) (see page 9 for more information).

• The primary reasons for returning to Afghanistan among those arriving from Türkiye in December included police harassment (77%) and arbitrary arrest/detention (23%).

• The most common destination provinces among respondents coming from Türkiye via Kabul airport included Faryab, Takhar and Nangarhar provinces.

• Among all inflows from both the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan, nearly 87 per cent of people entered via the four main crossing points connected to Afghanistan’s national highways; only 13 per cent used the other five border points.

• Lack of documentation was most common among those coming into Afghanistan at main border points with both the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan. More than half (52%) of those entering Afghanistan through the main border points from the Islamic Republic of Iran and a third (34%) of those entering Afghanistan through the main border points from Pakistan were not carrying any documentation.
