The Northeastern Afghanistan was severely hit by a massive landslide on Friday 3rd May 2014 due to heavy rainfall. Much of a village of Abi Barak, District Argun of mountainous Badakhshan Province, got buried under the massive landslide causing large scale casualties a significant number of people are still missing.
In view of strong brotherly relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow and concern and directed all concerned agencies to provide immediate assistance to the affected communities.
In compliance of the directives of the Prime Minister the NDMA immediately offered services of its Search and Rescue teams along with technical and canine component. NDMA dispatched humanitarian relief assistance on 6th May on a C 130 that was handed over to the Governor Badakhshan, Mr. Shah Wali- Ullah at Fayzabad airport in Badakhshan by DG Afghanistan of MoFA Pakistan Mr. Zaheer Pervaiz and representatives of NDMA.
The relief consignments comprise Non Food Items like Shelters, Blankets, Floor Mats / Durees, Kitchen Sets, Water Filtration Plants and Water Purification Tablets as well food items for 350 affected families. The food packs being delivered comprise Flour, Cooking Oil, Rice, Pulses and Sugar. Two more sorties of relief assistance are also planned on 7th May 2014.
The Government and people of Pakistan stand by our Afghan brethren in distress and shall continue to provide necessary assistance as required.
