CWS recovery programs assist people in Afghanistan

The initial foundations have been cleared and mud-bricking begun on the homes of several hundred families in the Shomali Valley, north of Kabul, reports Donna Derr, CWS coordinator of international emergency response. Fifteen hundred returning refugee and internally-displaced families build their new homes with building materials provided through the CWS Afghanistan Rehabilitation Housing Program. CWS is purchasing the materials within the region.
In addition, desks and chairs for 50,000 school students and their teachers in 77 schools in the Hazarajat region of central Afghanistan have been constructed locally and are ready for delivery. Each student will also be using new "Gift of the Heart" School Kits.

Since October 2001, CWS has provided Family Shelter Kits, food parcels, "Gift of the Heart" School Kits and Health Kits, building materials, and a quilt-making project to assist Afghans affected by war, drought, and earthquakes. CWS welcomes contributions to help support recovery programs in Afghanistan.
