This report is produced by OCHA in collaboration with humanitarian partners. It was issued by OCHA Afghanistan. It covers the period from 18/01/2012 to 19/01/2012. The next report will be issued on or around 20/01/2012.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

  • The Afghan National Disaster Management Agency reported that 29 people are reported killed and 40 people injured as a result of avalanches in the vicinity of ten districts north of Fayzabad, Badakhshan Province.

  • To date, the extent of the situation remains unclear as access to the affected area is by means of helicopter.

  • Road access remains blocked due to snowfall of at least 2 metres high.
