Key issues:

  • In the past week, more than 1,000 displaced people reportedly arrived in Nili district, Daykundi, from Gizab district, Uruzgan.

  • Some 1,000 people were displaced within Chawkay and Khaskunar districts, Kunar Province, according to authorities.

  • From 7 to 13 January, a total of 11,993 Afghans returned to their home country from Pakistan and Iran.

  • During the past week, more than 150,000 displaced people, returnees, refugees and host families received some form of humanitarian aid.

  • Since 1 January, more than 14,000 families have received cash assistance to pay for heating fuel and a total of 55,800 blankets.

  • In Dila district, Paktika, members of an NSAG reportedly collected cash assistance and burned the money, warning tribal elders not to take any assistance from the government.

  • In Khogyani district, families returning from displacement are put at risk by improvised explosive devices or unexploded ordnance left behind by recent conflict.
