Since 25 March, multiple provinces of Afghanistan have been affected by heavy rains and resultant floods, causing an increasing number of fatalities and damage. The worst affected provinces include Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Daikundi, Logar, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Jawzjan, Faryab, and Laghman.
Media, as of 31 March, report 42 fatalities and 66 people injured over the past six days. A total of 1 130 families are affected. 130 houses were destroyed, and more than 900 houses were damaged. Livestock perished, and roads, irrigation canals as well as agricultural land has been destroyed.
For the next days more rain is expected over large parts of the country, including the west, centre and east.
Humanitarian agencies (NRC, IOM, ARCS, ANDMA and others) are assessing and providing assistance.
