NUTRITION CLUSTER PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW: JANUARY - MARCH 2025
As of January 2025, the Afghanistan Nutrition Cluster comprised 65 partners (including 4 UN agencies, 27 international NGOs, 33 national NGOs and PND/MoPH). The 2025 Quarter 1 key accomplishments included:
- Overall, the Nutrition Cluster reached 26% of its annual target in the Q1 of 2025. A total of 1,527,456 beneficiaries received critical nutrition services between January and March, including 554,783 girls, 467,025 boys and 505,648 pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- A total of 246,688 children under five with moderate acute malnutrition (133,937 girls and 112,751 boys) were admitted to the TSFP, representing 14% of the annual target. Additionally, 199,884 PBW were reached through the TSFP, accounting for 25% of the annual target. KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- By the end of March 2025, the Outpatient Therapeutic Feeding Program (OTP) had been implemented in all 401 districts through 3,106 fixed and temporary health facilities. The Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) was implemented in 387 districts through 2,332 fixed and temporary health facilities. There were 147 Inpatient SAM treatment centers by the end of March 2025.
- A total of 124,480 children under five with severe acute malnutrition (70,085 girls and 54,395 boys) were admitted to OTP sites, reaching 17% of the annual target. Additionally, 9,867 children under five (5,555 girls and 4,312 boys) with severe acute malnutrition and complications received treatment in inpatient SAM centers, reaching 12% of the annual target.
- Meanwhile, 1,021,808 children under five years of age (554,783 girls and 467,025 boys) and 505,648 pregnant and breastfeeding women were enrolled in the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP), reaching 64% and 76% of their annual targets, respectively.
- Although MIYCN counseling services were provided to pregnant and breastfeeding women and caregivers of children aged 0-23 months, the data could not be captured this quarter due to data access issues. The MIYCN reach will be included in the next bulletin.
