NUTRITION CLUSTER PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW: JAN - SEP 2025

As of September 2025, the Afghanistan Nutrition Cluster comprised 65 partners (including 4 UN agencies, 27 international NGOs, 33 national NGOs and PND/MoPH). Key achievements during the first nine months of 2025 included:

  • Overall, the Nutrition Cluster reached 66% of its annual target during the first three quarters of 2025. A total of 3,898,577 beneficiaries received critical nutrition services between January and September, including 846,953 girls, 695,080 boys and 2,356,544 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls.
  • By the end of September 2025, the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) had been implemented in all 401 districts through 3,021 fixed and temporary health facilities. The Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) was implemented in 395 districts through 2,128 fixed and temporary health facilities. There were 147 Inpatient SAM treatment centers by the end of September 2025.
  • A total of 442,168 children under five with severe acute malnutrition (248,949 girls and 193,219 boys) were admitted to OTP sites, reaching 60% of the annual target. Additionally, 41,879 children under five (23,579 girls and 18,300 boys) with severe acute malnutrition and complications received treatment in inpatient SAM centers, reaching 51% of the annual target.
  • A total of 1,057,986 children under five with moderate acute malnutrition (574,426 girls and 483,560 boys) were admitted to the TSFP, representing 58% of the annual target. Additionally, 777,107 malnourished PBW were reached through the TSFP, accounting for 96% of the annual target.
  • Meanwhile, 1,176,524 children under five years of age (638,785 girls and 537,739 boys) and 573,892 pregnant and breastfeeding women were enrolled in the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP), reaching 74% and 81% of their annual targets, respectively.
  • In addition, MIYCN counseling to improve breast feeding and complementary feeding practices for children aged 0-23 months was provided to 1,579,437 pregnant and lactating women and care givers, representing 63% of the annual target.
