Afghanistan - Nimroz: Natural Disaster Affected People Assessment in Charburjak District - 18 Feb 21

2. Context

Recently, Kamal Kan Dam has been closed , Which has flooded several villages in Chaharborjak district of Nimroz province. That the increasing of water destroyed people's houses, cultivation, water sources, which made the people problems such as, to face lack of shelter, lack of food in their origin places and their life and dignity was at risk. Finally, they decided to flee to the neighboring of villages in Charborjak district and caused massive displacement of people to the other villages in Charborjak district.

Soon after the notification, a joint assessment was conducted on 15 February -18 February 2021 in which IOM was leading the assessment teams in this caseload, involving IOM, DACAAR ,HAPA,WFP and ANDMA .The Joint Needs Assessment (JNA) team found 141 HH (152 families) as the eligible beneficiaries and responses were provided through different intervention.

According to HEAT database, the average family size of the 152 families is slight above 5.51 persons per family.

Currently IDPs are living in secure place and no threat exist against them and they have access to all basic services such as public health clinic, school and bazaar. but due to poverty they are not able to afford medication cost in case of any sickness.

Lack of job opportunity and livelihood are the main protection concern against IDPs in the displacement location. During the assessment, no proper household items were seen around them thus, they are suffering due to lack of Food, NFIs and other supplementary items. Therefore, the assessment team recommended them for emergency humanitarian assistance food and non food items.
