Key updates: During the month of June, the WASH cluster led the AWD/Cholera preparedness and response trainings in 4 regions involving participants from UN agencies, INGOs, and NNGOs. The southern region had 31 participants, while the central and eastern regions had 36 and 34 persons attending and Bamyan in the central highland region registered 23 participants. With increase positive case in the Eastern region, the cluster coordinated dedicated technical working group sessions while leading the on-field response of multi sector teams from Health, WASH, SBC and surveillance.
In line with the ICCT commitment to improve communication and coordination between national and sub national level clusters, the WASH Cluster was part of a joint mission to the Southern region which is experiencing the significant impact of drought and high saline water. While communities remain resilient, partners continue to explore localized options for water access along riverbeds for fresh water and water for irrigation. Beyond the life saving and short-term options, there is need for capital investment in dam, urban type production wells and canal construction to improve overall water access-Basic needs and durable solutions.
