Key updates:
-Revised 2023 HRP published with WASH revised planned reach of 9.4M with $323M funding requirement.
-AHF Reserve Allocation 1-Two WASH NNGOs selected with nearly $1M funding for WASH response in Badghis, Kandahar and Maidan Wardak.
-Effects of drought on water supply continue to be reported in the North, South and Western Region.
Drought Assessments ongoing.
-Partners continue pursuing local solutions around female ban while also exploring working through health and nutrition that are exempted from ban.
-All 8 WASH regional Clusters now fully supported by dedicated regional cluster coordinators.
-Prepositioned emergency stocks in 41 locations across 31 provinces (81,712 hygiene kits, 6,091 latrine kits/slabs, 1,45 Million Aqua tab, 7.3 million soaps and 176 water tanks with different capacities) that can cover the needs at least of 190,000 people for a period of three months.
Challenges:
-Quality Programming impacted as assessments and monitoring are limited without women engagement.
-Delay in MoU signing coupled with bureaucracies at the line ministry.
-Low funding level potentially accounting for overall low WASH response reach especially related to AWD/Cholera Response.
