The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) coverage remains one of the challenging development issues in Afghanistan. Limited access and poor services to WASH means a significant burden of poor health, nutrition, education and protection for the most vulnerable people. In the context of the COVID-19 crisis, the revised Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP 2020) has planned to reach 3,762,623 people with WASH services in 2020. The 33 WASH Cluster partners have successfully reached 1,876,518 people (49.9% of the annual target) by the end of June 2020 – mostly with hygiene promotion for the COVID-19 response – while $101m of funding gap remains a huge concern for the rest of the year.
