Incidents Update:

During the reporting period four new natural disaster incidents were reported.

Central Region:

Wardak Province: As per an initial report from ANDMA in Wardak on 31 July, the flooding in Saydabad and Chaki Wardak districts (Otari and Ali Shah villages) has resulted in damages to an unknown number of houses, agricultural land and crops. Both districts are insecure and assessments in these districts are challenging. However, IOM is coordinating with ANDMA, ARCS and WFP/AREA to conduct an assessment in the mentioned villages.

East Region:

Kunar Province: On 29 July, as per preliminary information from Kunar ANDMA, approximately 30 families were affected due to riverbank erosion in Khas Kunar district (Arazi villages). A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, IMC and WFP conducted an assessment on 30 July. The findings of the assessment did not indicate damages to the houses. However, 60 jeribs of agricultural land belonging to 32 families were affected. The need for agricultural assistance has been referred to FAO for their possible intervention. The team also identified needs for DRR initiatives (flood protection walls) alongside the Kunar river that would protect livelihoods of the nearby families.

In a separate incident occurred on 30 July, as per the initial report from ANDMA director, 40 families were reportedly affected by flood in Narang and Dara Pech districts. During PDMC meeting held on 31 July, joint assessment teams were assigned to assess the affected villages. ARC will conduct an assessment in Dara Pech; while IOM, ANDMA, WFP, and IMC will conduct assessments in Narang district. The assessment in Narang was initiated by IMC on 30 July. The results of the assessments will be finalized on 1 August. Once the needs of the families identified, IOM will coordinate appropriate response.
