In the month of December, 48 Health Cluster partners reached 899,482 people with humanitarian health services through 1,011 health facilities in 326 districts of all 34 provinces.
Between November 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024, a total of 714,668 returnees were reached, including 258,794 women, 242,012 men, 114,770 girls, and 99,092 boys.
On 16 December 2024, the Health Cluster SAG convened in the WHO main conference room to address key agenda items. These included reviewing Expression of Interest (EOIs) for the Health Cluster Co-Coordinator position, presenting CCPM results, and discussing recommendations to enhance SAG work modalities for 2025. The meeting was chaired by the Health Cluster Coordinator and attended by representatives from WHO, HNTPO, JACK, and AKHS. During the session, the SAG members decided that IMC would take on the role of National co-coordinator agency for the Health Cluster.
During the month, the most common sickness among all age groups, were acute respiratory infections (ARI) and acute diarrheal disease, representing 32.5% of total consultations.
In December 2024, a total of 133,703 ARI/pneumonia cases and 228 associated deaths were reported, with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.2%. This represents 23.3% increase in reported cases compared to the previous month, which saw a 1.3% decrease. Of the total cases, 80,739 (60%) were among children under five, accounting for 171 of the reported deaths.
In the reporting month, 4,262 new suspected measles cases were reported, resulting in 25 deaths. This shows a 22.4% increase in the number of cases compared to the previous month (3,482). In 2024, a total of 59,753 measles suspected cases with 289 associated deaths were reported.
In December 2024, WHO provided 1,506 emergency medical kits to 73 health facilities in 24 provinces. The medical kits will benefit around 150,150 individuals in the next three months.
