Afghanistan - Floods (AMD, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 05 May 2022)

  • Since 1 May, heavy rainfall has been affecting several provinces in Afghanistan (Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Badakhshan, Takhar, Parwan, Kunduz, Wardak, Baghlan, Faryab and Jawzjan), causing widespread floods with significant damages.
  • According to initial reports from the media, at least 20 people have died and 30 others sustained injuries. A number of individuals are reported missing. More than 260 houses have been partially damaged, 19 destroyed and 100 livestock were lost.
  • On 5-6 May, light rainfall is forecasted for north-eastern Afghanistan.
