Highlights

  • President Karzai issues an order declaring 4 May as day of national mourning observing the catastrophic Badakhshan landslide.

  • Second Vice President visits the site where a landslide engulfed a village and officials declare that a maximum of about 500 people died. Over 1,000 families have been affected in Argo; initial needs of 700 displaced families met.

  • Total people affected by April/May floods increased to 71,000 people, 159 confirmed dead.

  • New waves of flooding have affected Baghlan and Samangan

  • Humanitarian operations continue in the worst affected provinces of Jawzjan, Faryab and Sar-e-pul.

  • Access has been secured to the six districts of Darzeb, Qushtepa,
    Almar, Qaysar, Sozmaqala, and Gosfandi.
