On Wednesday 29th January, just before
9pm (local time), an explosive device containing 250g TNT was thrown at
Action Against Hunger's office premises in Kandahar. Fortunately no one
was hurt by the explosion, despite the significant damage to our premises.
Shocked by the incident, Action Against
Hunger has temporarily suspended its programmes in Kandahar.
The south of Afghanistan is the scene of violent fighting between the coalition forces and the fundamentalist Taliban fighters. Humanitarian organisations are trapped by these confrontations that are giving rise to a growing confusion, in the eyes of the population, between military personnel and western humanitarian aid workers.
