GERESHK, Afghanistan (May 1) - International Security Assistance Force military engineers began construction work today on three company-sized patrol bases for the Afghan National Security Forces in Gereshk and surrounding areas.

Each base will house up to 100 ANSF members and allow them a foothold in the town.

Each base has a dedicated accommodation block which improves the living conditions for the troops based there. In addition, the bases will have a high protective wall and sentry positions.

"These bases represent a real improvement for the security of Gereshk. Once completed, soldiers of the Afghan National Army can carry out their work," said Lt. Col. Ivan Jones, commander of ISAF military engineers said. "Only when Gereshk is safe can the Afghan government start to rebuild the local community."
