As the first year of Afghanistan’s Ottawa Extension Request workplan, 1392 was a landmark year for the Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA). Under the first year of the workplan, MAPA was expected to clear 79.16 Sq Km of contaminated land. In fact, the programme cleared and released 97.9 square kilometers of minefields and 20.7 square kilometers of battlefields,a significant achievement.

MAPA achieved several other feats during 1392 and this document outlines just some of them. The credit goes to all those throughout the programme, who have each made their contribution to these achievements. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors and the supporters of the programme. We call upon all stakeholders to continue their support until our goal of making Afghanistan mine and ERW free by 2023 is achieved.
