NEW YORK, 24th September, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE has announced its intention to make two financial donations to the United Nations; US$15 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, UNRWA, to help in its basic programmes for Palestinian refugees, and another $15 million will be allocated to support UN Women over the next three years.
SHABWA, 21st September, 2017 (WAM) -- Four schools in the Shabwa Governorate in Yemen re-opened yesterday following their restoration and renovation by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, as part of the organisation's ongoing projects to rebuild vital infrastructure and facilities in the country, especially in the education and health sectors.
The schools are Azzan Secondary School for Boys, Azzan Primary School for Boys and Girls, and Hafsa Primary School.
WASHINGTON, 21st September, 2017 (WAM) -- Following the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma, which brought widespread devastation to the Florida Keys and communities all across the state, the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Washington has announced that the UAE government has pledged US$10 million to help with recovery efforts.
UAE Ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, spoke with Florida Governor, Rick Scott, about the donation, which will help recovery and rebuilding efforts in some of the most hard-hit parts of the state.
SHABWAH 16th September, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE has continued its humanitarian aid and relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of people in Yemen and improve their living conditions. As part of these efforts, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has distributed 4,000 food baskets to underprivileged families in the Jardan District of the Shabwah Governorate.
Mohammed Saif Al Muhairi, Head of the ERC team in Shabwah, said that the ERC is working to help improve the living conditions of individuals in the Shabwah Governorate through its humanitarian aid programme.
HADRAMAUT, 14th September, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, today signed an agreement for a project to supply pumps and pipes to connect two artesian wells to the main water well in Al Odaiba in Ghayl Ba Wazir, Hadramaut Governorate, to collect water for use in local services and production.
The agreement was signed by Abdulaziz Al Jabri, Head of the ERC Team in Hadramaut, and Eng. Waheeb Ghanim, General Manager of the Water and Sanitation Local Corporation in the Hadramaut Coast, with the attendance of Ahmed Al Baloushi, Deputy Head of the ERC Team.
