ABU DHABI, 3rd January, 2019 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has ordered the launch of a winter aid programme for Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Greece, Egypt and other countries, costing AED15 million, which will benefit a million refugees.
Sheikh Hamdan also directed the participation of ERC’s volunteers from various medical, ambulatory, relief and logistical specialisations in the programme’s implementation.
BEIRUT, 2nd January, 2019 (WAM) -- The UAE Embassy in Beirut has launched the UAE Response Campaign for Displaced Syrians "Winter 2019 - Lebanon".
The initiative is funded by a number of entities, including the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Sharjah Charity International and the Human Appeal International, and organised in cooperation with Lebanon's Ministry of State for Displaced Affairs and a number of Lebanese state departments.
SHARJAH, 20th December, 2018 (WAM) -- The Big Heart Foundation, TBHF, the UAE-based global humanitarian organisation, has renewed its support with a financial grant of over US$700,000 to three projects undertaken by leading UN agencies, UNHCR and UNICEF, in Jordan, Syria and Yemen.
According to the 2018 Humanitarian Needs Overview Report, HNO, 13.1 million people in Syria alone are in need of humanitarian assistance, out of which the condition of nearly half the population is acute.
HODEIDAH, 7th December, 2018 (WAM) -- UAE and Sudan armed forces specialist teams, as part of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, have continued demining operations to remove landmines laid out by Houthi militias in civilian populated areas.
The minesweeping and demining focus areas include populated civilian infrastructure, roads and farmland across liberated regions of the Red Sea Coast in Yemen.
HADRAMAUT, 19th November, 2018 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, delivered the second batch of aid that consists of flour and cooking oil, to support bakeries in Hadramaut, Yemen.
The aid will be used to provide bread to families at subsidised prices, as part of the ERC’s efforts to ease hardships endured by Yemenis, as well as to ensure the development and implementation of food security programmes in Yemen.
The aid, which arrived in Mukalla Port, will support 20 bakeries in Hadramaut, following the first batch that was delivered at the beginning of November.
