Kyiv, 19 August 2018 - On the 10th commemoration of World Humanitarian Day (WHD), the United Nations Office in Ukraine calls for urgent action to protect millions of Ukrainian civilians severely affected by ongoing active hostilities in the east of the country.
The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Ms. Osnat Lubrani, urges increased support by the international community to scale up much-needed humanitarian assistance to respond to the large-scale humanitarian needs generated by the crisis.
Kharkiv, 9 August 2018 – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with the European Union’s support presented the UPSHIFT Ukraine programme to develop professional skills of adolescents and youth in Kharkiv on August 9.
The programme will help to improve employment opportunities of vulnerable young people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine and assist social businesses in solving social and environmental issues in their communities.
20 June 2018 – There has been no meaningful progress in the human rights situation in the armed conflict zone and other parts of Ukraine, says a report published today by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. The report covers the period between 16 February and 15 May 2018.
16 May 2018, Severodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast – A delegation from the Embassy of Japan visited conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine on May 15-16 to assess the recovery and development projects implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with financial support from the Government of Japan.
Since 2014, the Government of Japan has been supporting initiatives implemented by UNDP and UNICEF in Ukraine in response to the humanitarian crisis in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
