Siddharth Chatterjee is the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Kenya.

There is barely a corner of human life that will not be affected by climate change, and some of its impacts are already being felt. Consider this, 821 million people are now hungry and over 150 million children stunted, putting the global hunger eradication goal at risk.

Today, 15 May, is the United Nations International Day of Families and the theme for this year is, ‘Families and Climate Action’.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 2017 (IPS) - Poverty is a blight, and one that disproportionately affects sub-Saharan Africa. It is a vast and complex issue whose tentacles reach into many areas, including climate change, sustainable development and–crucially–global security. The link between poverty and violent extremism is compelling, and means that if we want to address extremism, we must fight inequality too.

Overview

Some showers of rain were experienced in the Arid districts of Samburu, Tana River and Ijara while most parts of the country remained dry signifying the end of the long rains. Water situation remained good in most of the districts where the boreholes remained closed and the main source of water for both domestic and livestock use remained the water pans, dams and river wells.
