Tirana, 10 December 2017:

According to Albanian authorities, heavy rains at the beginning of December caused floods in central and southern parts of the country. More than 1500 persons were evacuated. Around 3500 families are suffering from loss or seriously damaged houses, loss of economic assets including high numbers of livestock and poultries. Some 15.000 ha of agricultural land have been flooded ,177 schools and 21 health care institutions are heavily damaged.

Kukes, 8 June 2011 – Representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, the Institute of Public Health, Kukes Regional Health Authority, UN Agencies and civil society partners came together in a regional workshop as part of efforts to combat food insecurity among high risk groups.The event provided an opportunity to review progress in the implementation of the National Plan for Nutrition Programme.

8 April 2010 - Today, on International Roma Day, United Nations announced further support to Roma communities in Albania. The Minister of Labour Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Mr. Spiro Ksera, United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Gülden Türköz-Cosslett and Heads of participating UN Agencies signed a new Joint Programme, "Empowering Vulnerable Local Communities of Albania". The joint intervention, part of the One UN Programme in Albania will be implemented by UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA and UNV in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Tirana, 10 January 2010 - The United Nations in Albania has followed the developments in northern Albania where the heavy rains in recent days have affected the lives of the local population. United Nations is concerned for the affected population.

Gulden Turkoz-Cosslett, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Albania says: "We have seen the spirit of solidarity with which the Government and other institutions are responding to this situation, including timely international support.
