Refugees face similar challenges across Syria’s neighbouring countries, a new report by a coalition of 28 NGOs has found, warning that long-term efforts are still needed by the international community and host governments.
Worldwide, about 70 million girls aged between 15 and 19 have been victims of some form of physical violence and about 200 million girls have been victims of genital mutilation. Every year, around 15 million girls get married before turning 18 and about 16 million girls aged 15 -19 give birth to a child. Every year a million and a half girls are killed worldwide before being born, due to sex-selective abortions.

Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) violates universally recognized international legal norms and standards and has always been unacceptable behavior and prohibited conduct for humanitarian workers. It brings harm to those whom the UN and humanitarian agencies are mandated to protect, and jeopardizes the reputation of these agencies and their ability to provide protection.
More than 150,000 people from around the world have today joined 35 aid, faith, development and human rights organizations in backing an unprecedented joint call urging world leaders to press the Israeli government to lift the blockade on Gaza and remove the restrictions on basic building materials needed to reconstruct the coastal strip.
