The social, economic and political context of Sudan is shaped by the over two decades of protracted civil war which ended in 2005. Although in the post–peace agreements phase and the separation of the South Sudan, Sudan still faces challenges related to the post-peace humanitarian, rehabilitation and development realities. The country is susceptible to natural disasters such as drought and floods.
On 28th December SRCS coordination office has sent a team composed of three person and one vehicle (Ahmed Essa , Hargeisa branch secretary, Yusuf Hassan Ismail ,MoWR regional coordinator and Yasin Osman Jama, resilience Watsan officer) to assess the drought affected areas of the above mention directions of Hargeisa region.
This Emergency Appeal seeks 2,423,144 CHF in cash, kind, or services to support the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) to assist 38,037 households (223,392 beneficiaries) and this number will be increasing until the end of rainy season end of September beginning of October 2014.
In response to the appeal lately launched by Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) for assisting families affected in Khartoum state. SRCS in partnership with Chinese Embassy had presented shelter material (blankets, mosquito nets and clothing) for four thousand of affected house holds in Alfath city of North Omdurman.
The Sudanese Red Crescent Juba branch has embarked on a three days polio eradication campaign. The campaign which support by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies targeting five out of ten states of South Sudan but due to recent conflicts in Jonglei state, it has only being carried out in Central, Western Equatoria and Northern, Western Bahr El ghazal states. A considerable number of volunteers were participating in the campaign.
