Funafuti, Tuvalu – The Prime Minister of Tuvalu along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have today officially launched the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project (TCAP) marking the start of an ambitious, large-scale push to protect the Pacific island nation from climate change.

The Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project, set to run for seven years, is financed with US$36 million from the Green Climate Fund and $2.9 million from the Government of Tuvalu.

The National Strategic Action Plan (NSAP) for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management describes the people of Tuvalu’s priorities for immediate actions. The National Action Plan provides a prioritised programme of action that the Tuvalu Government will implement over the next five years. The NSAP provides a range of actions requiring commitment and a coordinated joint effort within government, and with the private sector and civil society.

Te Kaniva (Tuvalu Climate Change Policy) prescribes the Government and the people of Tuvalu’s strategic polices for responding to climate change impacts and related disaster risks over the next 10 years (2012 ‐ 2021). The Policy defines seven thematic goals, strategies and desired outcomes that the Government and the people of Tuvalu have prioritised for implementation to ensure that safety and resilience are achieved. The Policy is directly linked to the National Strategic Action Plan for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management (NSAP).
