Vientiane – The Safe Delivery app, symbolizing the power of mobile technology, will soon be in the hands of midwives in Lao People’s Democratic Republic to help make childbirth safer for women across the country, even in the most remote areas.
The innovative smartphone application provides skilled birth attendants with direct and instant access to evidence-based and up-to-date clinical guidelines on basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care (BEmONC), to handle potentially life-threatening complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
What is the CBDRR Manual?
The CBDRR Manual is a practical ‘how-to’ guide on community-based disaster risk reduction for government and non-government agencies in Lao PDR. It is a commonly agreed document to be referred to by agencies working on CBDRR in Lao PDR. It provides guidance and support for systematic implementation of CBDRR programs by explaining each of the steps as well as tools used.
The government has approved 25 billion kip of funding to repair irrigation systems damaged in recent flooding so that water can be supplied to dry season crops in the coming months.
The irrigation sector requested 170 billion kip in government funding to repair irrigation systems in 11 provinces, Irrigation Department Deputy Director General Mr Nouandeng Rajvong told Vientiane Times yesterday.
The shortfall in funding will need to be made up by provincial budgets and small contributions from farmers.
