815 millones de personas padecen hambre, con millones de niños amenazados de malnutrición

15 de septiembre de 2017, Roma – Tras haber disminuido de forma constante durante más de una década, vuelve a aumentar el hambre en el mundo, que afectó a 815 millones de personas en 2016 -el 11 por ciento de la población mundial-, según la nueva edición del informe anual de la ONU sobre seguridad alimentaria y nutrición publicada hoy. Al mismo tiempo, múltiples formas de malnutrición amenazan la salud de millones de personas.

We, the civil society organisations working with Syrian communities, welcome the launch of the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan 2017-2018 in response to the Syrian Crisis (3RP) and the sharing of the key humanitarian priorities for Syria in 2017 in Helsinki on 24 January 2017. We endorse the focus of 3RP on integrating a development approach with humanitarian assistance activities and echo the key features of the plan, such as the emphasis on educational opportunities and the need for boosting the use of national and local capacities for service delivery.

Fida provides emergency assistance, supports the recovery of small villages and continuation of schooling for children.

Fida has granted 50 000 Euros as emergency assistance to Nepal, after it has been battered by an earthquake. The people worst affected by the earthquake are the poor and marginalised casteless people groups, who were already doing it tough.

HIV Infections Decreased by More than a Half

  • In 2004 Fida started a HIV/AIDS project in Ethiopia, focusing on Debre Zeit, a city of approximately hundred thousand people.

  • Before the project, Debre Zeit had one of the worst HIV problems in Ethiopia. Up to seven per cent of the city's residents had HIV.
