Addis Ababa, March 29, 2018 (ECA) - Experts in climate information services (CIS) and other related fields from across the continent on Tuesday unanimously agreed CIS has socio-economic benefits (SEB) that are helpful for disaster risk reduction (DRR), in particular supporting Africa’s response to climate change.

The experts attending a two-day validation workshop on analyzing and validating the socio-economic benefits of CIS for disaster reduction, agreed research has proven that climate information services have socio-economic benefits helpful for disaster risk reduction.

L’étude sur le coût de la faim en Afrique (CDFA) est une initiative régionale menée par la Commission de l’Union Africaine à travers laquelle les pays sont en mesure d’estimer l’impact social et économique de la sous-nutrition chez l’enfant pour une année donnée. Au vu de l’importance des questions de nutrition pour le Mali, le Gouvernement a décidé de mettre en oeuvre cette étude afin d’apprécier les conséquences sociales et économiques de la sous-nutrition des enfants de moins de cinq ans dans le pays.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 13 November 2017 (ECA) – A two-day High Level Policy Dialogue on Conflict and Development in the Horn of Africa opened Monday in Addis Ababa with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s Peace and Security Director, Ambassador Tewelde Gebremeskel, saying IGAD is at cross-roads as political and economic instabilities continue to be critical causes of conflicts leading to the fragility of states in the region.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 8 November 2017 (ECA) – The 6th Capitalization Meeting of the European Union-funded Land Governance Program opened in Addis Ababa Wednesday with project implementers meeting to address implementation challenges and advance their knowledge and skills.

The three-day meeting will allow participants to discuss land governance issues in Africa and related issues like the elimination of hunger, poverty, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
