UN’s Committee against Torture issues new guidelines on asylum seekers’ rights
GENEVA (26 February 2018) – New guidelines developed by the United Nations Committee against Torture (CAT) aim to help governments avoid violating international human rights law, and to help asylum seekers avoid torture or other ill-treatment.
This afternoon, the Committee against Torture completed the review of the second periodic report of Afghanistan on its implementation of the provisions of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The Committee against Torture this afternoon completed its consideration of the initial report of Lebanon on the implementation of the provisions of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
GENEVA (31 March 2017) – Hungary should immediately address the excessive use of detention, the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture (SPT) said on Friday at the end of an 11-day visit to the country.
GENEVA (13 September 2016) – The United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) on Friday concluded its visit to Ukraine. The experts returned to Ukraine from 5 to 9 September to resume a visit they had suspended in May after being unable to access some places under the authority of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
