TWO trucks carrying hundreds of toys donated to Syrian refugees left Bahrain yesterday towards the Za’atari camp in Jordan.

The donations were collected by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society as part of a nationwide drive.

“This is a gift from the people of Bahrain to the young Syrian children, who can play with the toys in the temporary education buildings,” said society secretary-general Dr Fauzi Ameen.

“The consignment contains new and used toys for nursery children along with books for students at the Za’atari camp.

Secretary General of the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed, the Chief Executive of Bahrain National Committee for Supporting the Palestinian People in Gaza, has signed an agreement with Palestine Red Crescent Society to treat100 injured people from Gaza at Palestine Hospital in Egypt in cooperation with Bahrain Red Crescent Society, Bahrain Medical Society and Egypt Red Crescent Society.

PLANS to build refugee camps in Arab nations bordering Palestine will soon be underway to help the besieged people of the Gaza Strip.

Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) secretary-general Dr. Fawzi Al Amin represented the country during an emergency meeting on the Gaza crisis in Amman, Jordan, where 16 humanitarian organisations working in the Middle East pledged to continue relief work in the war-torn area.

Dr. Fawzi Amin said that the meeting was held following a request from the PRCS and IFRC.

Subic Freeport, Philippines – The Philippine Red Cross will implement projects in partnership with the Bahrain Red Crescent Society and the Bahrain Royal Charity Organization for the benefit of the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.

In a signing ceremony held in Subic Freeport, Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon said that the joint project would benefit the survivors of typhoon Yolanda in Eastern Visayas.

Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay, with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Chairman Roberto Garcia, witnessed the signing ceremonies.

Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Sahid Glang and Consul General Raquel Solano visited the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) office in Manama on January 20 and met with BRCS officials to provide the latter with relevant information and updates on Philippine post-disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts in the areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
