  • Typhoon ‘Doksuri’ has made landfall in Viet Nam as a Category 1 typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 135 kph;

  • National and local authorities have put in place preparedness measures such as evacuation of at risk population, prepositioning of response capacities, early harvest, among others.

  • Assessment of the impact is still on going.

2. SUMMARY OF DISASTER EVENT

Typhoon ‘Doksuri’ with maximum sustained winds of 135 kph (wind gust up to 185 kph) has made landfall in the afternoon of Friday 15 September 2017 in Viet Nam. The worst hit area were Ha Tinh and Quang Binh. At least 4 deaths were initially reported.

In Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces, It was estimated that more than 100,000 homes sustained damages in the hours before and after the landfall. Power was cut in large areas as a preventive measure.
