Desert Locust outbreak in Yemen (June-October 2013)
Attachments
APR-JUL 2013 Desert Locust infestations increased in the interior of Yemen as a result of a swarm invasion in June and subsequent breeding from good rains in April and May. Control operations were not possible initially because of insecurity and beekeeping. Consequently, hoppers and adults formed groups during July within a vast area of the interior of which only a small portion could be accessed by national locust teams. This illustrates the difficulty in monitoring and treating locusts in remote and insecure areas.
