Hepatitis E
- New Caledonia: Health authorities in New Caledonia have raised awareness about a surge in hepatitis E cases in August, with 11 confirmed cases, half of which were asymptomatic. The investigation is ongoing. – Source: Media release of New Caledonia Government, released on 31 August 2023
Leptospirosis
- Guam: As of 01 September 2023, Guam's Department of Public Health and Social Services has confirmed three cases of leptospirosis: One case in late July and two cases in August. Meningococcal Disease

Australia, South Australia (SA): As of 29 August 2023, A case of invasive meningococcal disease has been reported in a 14-year-old male from rural SA, who is now stable in the hospital. New Zealand: As of 29 August 20923, Te Whatu Ora confirmed a meningococcal disease case in Canterbury and assures that the risk of further transmission is low. Ross River Virus
- Australia, Western Australia (WA): The Western Australia Health Department issued a warning on August 29, 2023, after identifying Ross River virus (RRV) in mosquitoes collected from the Southwest area for the first time in two years. WHO Weekly epidemiological update on COVID-19: In the 28 days to August 27, 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported over 1.4 million new COVID-19 cases, marking a 38% increase compared to the previous 28 days, while the number of deaths decreased by 50% with over 1,800 deaths reported. Globally, there have been more than 770 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 6.9 million deaths.
