Influenza-like Illness (ILI), Influenza A and B

  • Palau: As of 30 July 2023, cases of ILI and influenza, which are below thresholds, continue to be detected in Week 30. Of 19 isolates tested in week 30, there was one Influenza A case detected, and 8 cases influenza B detected, up from 5 cases in week 29 ILI cases continue to decrease, with 8 cases reported in week 30, compared to 10 cases in week 29. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19):

Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 testing, vaccination and reporting strategies across the pacific region, the data reported might not reflect the true situation in a number of countries.

  • Palau: As of 28 July 2023, 109 new COVID-19 cases were reported since the 14 July 2023. – Source: Palau COVID-19 Situation Report accessed on the 01 August 2023
  • Tokelau: As of 27 July 2023, a COVID-19 outbreak is happening in Fakaofo, so far there are 75 community cases reported from this site. The total number of COVID-19 cases detected in Tokelau is 99, with 19 new cases reported since 14 July 2023. – Source: Personal communication with country official on the 27 July 2023.

Influenza-Like Illness and Influenza B

  • Republic of Marshall Island (RMI): As of 17 July 2023, in the RMI weekly Surveillance report, 16 Influenza B cases were reported in week 29 in Majuro, 10 more cases than the previous week. Furthermore, the number of Influenza-Like Illness cases in Majuro was above threshold (21 cases/week) for the past three weeks with 26 cases reported in week 29, 26 in week 28 and 29 in week 27. – Source: RMI Communicable Disease Weekly Report, Ministry of Health and Human Services (reporting week 29).
