Vietnam

• Severe weather, including heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, continue causing landslide, flood and wind damage in the country.

• As of 22 September, in central Vietnam, further to the two deaths in Quang Binh last week, local media report another four fatalities in Nghe An and two in Thanh Hoa provinces. In the latter, over 1 870 houses have been flooded and the communities of Thanh Lam and Quan Son are isolated. In the north of the country, three people died in Hoa Binh province, with 100 houses flooded in Hoa Binh and Phu Tho. Extensive flooding has also been reported in the capital Hanoi and the city of Haiphong in the north and the provinces of Dong Thap and An Giang in the south, while more than 15,000 ha of cropland have been inundated throughout the country.

• Heavy rainfall will continue affecting northern Vietnam over the next 24 h, sustaining the risk of flash floods and landslides, while a flood warning has been issued for the low-lying areas of the north, by the Vietnamese authorities.

Cambodia

• Rainfall reportedly continues affecting the coastal part of the country, while high water discharge in the rivers running from neighbouring Thailand have affected northwestern Cambodia over the last week.

• Local media report four provinces affected in the south, namely Kampot, Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, and Kep. In Kampot, five communes flooded due to water released from Kamchay dam last week, damaging nearly 4,400 houses and affecting more than 21,600 people.

• In the northwest, the province of Battambang was affected the most, with two deaths in Bavel and Sangke districts, roads blocked and over 750 houses flooded, mostly in Bavel and Kamrieng. Hundreds of families had to evacuate their homes in Battambang and Pailin provinces, while Banteay Meanchey and Pursat were also affected.

• Rainfall is forecast to continue throughout the country over the next 24 h, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the south.
