In the first quarter of 2025, the Mine Action Area of Responsibility (AA) in Ukraine, in coordination with 13 partners, achieved significant progress in addressing the explosive ordnance threat. The mine action activities covered communities in 15 oblasts, with the largest number of people reached in Kharkivska, Donetska, Zaporizka and Dnipropetrovska oblasts.
Key achievements include:
- 112,240 people participated in face-to-face Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) sessions, increasing awareness and promoting safer behavior in affected communities.
- 16,051 people directly benefited from land clearance activities, regaining access to essential land and infrastructure.
- 356 EO survivors received cash assistance to support their immediate needs and recovery.
- 8,257,969 m² of land was surveyed and identified as Suspected or Confirmed Hazardous Areas (SHA/CHA), contributing to a more accurate understanding of contamination scope.
- 1,689,967 m² of land was successfully cleared of explosive ordnance, helping restore safe access to livelihoods and essential services.
The largest reach was reported by HALO Trust (63,026 people reached), Ukrainian Deminers Association (31,851 people), Danish Refugee Council (10,360 people), with other partners as Humanity & Inclusion, Norwegian People's Aid, Ukrainian Education Platform, Mines Advisory Group, DanChurchAid, Enlightening Initiative, Angels of Salvation, Right to Protection, Helpcode, SOS Civil Defense Headquarters also contributing to EORE, clearance, and victim assistance efforts.
