  • According to official reports, heavy rain has been affecting several parts of the country over the last few days causing floods and landslides. Approx. 125 mm of rain in 24 h were recorded in Anuradhapura (Northern Central province) over 16-17 May, 198 mm in Vavuniya (Northern province), 179 mm in Trincomalee (Eastern province) and 135 mm in Ratnapura (Sabaragamuwa province) over 15-16 May.

  • National authorities reported over 207 500 people affected, eight dead, nine injured, eight missing, over 134 400 evacuated and over 1 400 homes partially or fully damaged, as of 17 May early morning (UTC).

  • Over the next 24 h heavy rain and strong winds may continue to affect the country.
