  • The multidimensional crisis severely impacted national food production system. Increased cost of agricultural inputs and fuel continue to adversely impact on lives and livelihoods of agriculture-dependent communities, including small-scale farmers, livestock keepers and fishers. Agricultural operations and supply chains have been impacted, resulting in lower sales, reduced famers’ income, increased post-harvest losses and poor-quality food for the consumers.

  • Following the publication of resulting Humanitarian Needs and Priorities (HNP) for the period June 2022 to December 2022, the Agriculture Sector reached over 1M paddy farmers with cash and agricultural inputs. This enabled them to resume crop production activities for their food and nutrition security.

  • According to CFSAM 2023 findings, the aggregate 2023 cereal production is forecast to fall 14% below the last five-year average. Moreover, Poultry farming (which are vital for local protein intake) is forecast to drop substantially in 2023 due to high feed prices and hatchery closures since 2022. Fish production is anticipated to decline in 2023, mostly due to high energy and fuel costs for offshore and costal fishers.
