A robust response is required to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe. The plan aims to immediately and rapidly scale-up operations and to increase the provision of protection and life-saving assistance.

Ten aid workers who were detained while on mission have been returned in good health. At least 100 aid workers have been killed since the start of the conflict in December 2013.

The number of cases of children under five years with severe acute malnutrition has seen a 350% increase since 2013. Extreme levels of food insecurity are expected to continue in 2017.
