  • Wildfires and severe weather have been affecting the Western Cape province over the last few days causing damage and casualties.

  • According to national authorities five people died, 2 000 evacuated and 827 houses damaged in Cape Town Municipality.

  • According to Eden District Municipality, as of 09 June at 16.00 UTC, wildfires broke out in the town of Knysna, causing five deaths and 300 houses damaged; local media, reported also that 10 000 people were displaced.

  • The fires, according to Eden District Municipality, are all contained as of 9 June at 16.00 UTC.
